musings on Windows XP Media Center Edition RSS 2.0

Something which hasn't really made a lot of sense to me for a while is the way that analogue terrestrial television (UK) is handled by Media Center. Because the broadcast channels alter radically depending what transmitter you’re pointing at, it would seem to make sense to ask the user what transmitter they are working against. If that was done, in theory all your channels should just then work, without needing any additional configuration changes as MCE should get the correct channels through the EPG. This is what is done for the DVB-T mode although in the analogue world it’s more important to know where the services are meant to be as there is no channel scan. I suppose the way its working right now does give some benefit if you’re trying to get a better signal from another transmitter, but if your not you end up with 6 or 7 dud channels to filter out, it’s nigh on impossible to receive BBC South services two or three hundred miles out of range J. The setup could be handled a bit better.
