Media Center Configuration Reset is an application which allows you to quickly remove certain parts of the registry and application data which relate to the Media Center application. There are a few reasons you may wish to so this, such as when changing hardware, want to reset the configuration to attempt to solve a problem caused by corrupt application data. Or just simply want to clear up and start again.

I offer no guarantees for this application, although not intended (or experienced by myself during testing) its use may permanently damage your data, Media Center or Windows install. Please understand that you use this application at your own risk and that it is in no way endorsed by Microsoft.

In its default operation it will do the following

  • Stop running Media Center processes
  • Remove the ehome application data folder
  • Remove certain Machine and User entries under HKEY (Local Machine/Current User)\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ CurrentVersion \Media Center (Now including TV Tuner settings)

Then offer the ability to delete all recorded TV shows and the detected tuner configuration in the registry. Please note that running this application will also remove your guide data, some Media Center user preferences and clear any upcoming recordings. After reconfiguring your machine you will need to setup any series or one time recordings again.

v1.01.3 - 21st October 2004
New: Media Center 2005 Release Compatible (versions prior to 1.01.2 should not be used with Media Center 2005 as they will not fully reset the product, these are only suitable for early beta versions of Media Center 2005, and Media Center 2004).
Fixed: Identity of Media Center 2005 with Rollup 1 installed is now correctly identified, 1.01.2 would exit with an unknown version error if run on a patched MCE2005 install.
Fixed: A bug which could occour if two copies of Media Center are installed on the same system and the application was executed by the version on drive D. In this case the version on drive C would of been targetted. Now version associated with running OS targetted.

v1.01.2 - 26th July 2004
Fixed: (forced) is no longer shown in the log if MCE processes are not forcefully terminated. Typo left in, previous version did actually do what the user requested.
Change: Registry exception added for particular MCE Ident
Change: Force shut down of processes default choice.
Change: Erase Recorded TV moved to file menu, replaced by ‘Lanuch Media Center'.
New: Added use of System Metrics as an extra OS check

Beta 3 - 20th July 2004
Change: Most aggressive setting becomes the default choice
Change: Command line switches changed (/tuner removed – as it is the default now)
Fixed: Media Center Edition does not have to be installed on drive C and can use a non standard Windows folder name.
New: User can graphically choose options previously only available though command line switches.
